Garment Care
Care Guide
Every UNIGUISE piece is made to last — but longevity depends on care. Follow these guidelines to preserve your garments for years to come.
Always
General Principles
Rotate your garments — wearing the same piece repeatedly without rest shortens its life.
Treat stains immediately and from the outside in. Never rub — blot gently.
Store all UNIGUISE pieces away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fade.
Cedar blocks, not mothballs, are recommended for storage of natural fibre garments.
When in doubt, dry clean. The cost is far less than replacing a damaged garment.

By Fabric
Fabric-Specific Instructions
✦
Silk & Charmeuse
- Hand wash in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent
- Never wring — roll in a clean towel to remove excess water
- Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight
- Iron on the lowest setting through a pressing cloth, or steam lightly
- Store folded in acid-free tissue or hanging in a breathable garment bag
✦
Lace (Guipure & French)
- Dry clean only for heavily structured or embellished lace
- For unlined lace, hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry
- Never scrub — blot stains gently with a clean cloth
- Store flat to prevent distortion of the lace pattern
- Keep away from sharp surfaces and jewellery that can catch the threads
✦
Adire & Hand-Dyed Cotton
- Wash separately for the first three washes — natural dye may run slightly
- Hand wash or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle
- Use a colour-protecting detergent and avoid bleach entirely
- Line dry in the shade to prevent fading from UV exposure
- Cool iron on the reverse side to preserve the dye patterns
✦
Aso-Oke & Woven Fabrics
- Dry clean is strongly recommended for structured Aso-Oke pieces
- If hand washing, use cool water and very gentle agitation
- Do not tumble dry — the woven structure may distort
- Store folded rather than on a hanger to maintain shape
- Air the garment occasionally to prevent mustiness
✦
Ankara & Dutch Wax Print
- Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle or hand wash
- Wash dark colours separately to prevent colour transfer
- Line dry or tumble dry on low — avoid high heat
- Iron on medium heat on the reverse side
- The wax finish softens naturally over time — this is normal and desirable
✦
Evening Gowns & Structured Garments
- Dry clean only — never attempt to wash at home
- After wearing, air the garment before storing
- Store in the provided garment bag, laid flat for heavily boned pieces
- Address stains immediately — do not let them set
- Avoid hanging boned or structured bodices for extended periods
